An annotated dissertation proposal using qualitative methods

Unless obliged to by a funder’s form or an institution’s requirement, writers of qualitative proposals are much less likely to follow a common format or structure. But one can provide a checklist of aspects that should be included in all such proposals. See our Dissertation Proposal Writing Service

An initial focus or question that provides boundaries for your inquiry and a rationale for doing the study that includes:

• Who will be studied and what they represent and what contexts will be studied and what they represent,

• The approach used such as symbolic interactionism, ethnography, etc.

• Your qualifications and experience with this approach,

• The methods of data collection,

• The methods of data analysis, and

• Anticipated ethical problems and how they will be handled.

Lacking here and throughout the proposal is some sense of the schedule since budget is heavily dependent on the number and length of the activities. Because dissertation proposals usually have np budget, they generally also lack a schedule. This is unfortunate for several reasons:

Working through a schedule gives the proposer a clearer idea of how well the method section has been thought and whether some items have been omitted. Schedules that go together easily indicate the proposal is well written and vice versa.

The schedule facilitates judgment of the project’s feasibility.

Scheduling helps anticipate problems early so one can do something about them, e.g. planning data gathering during a holiday period when staff and others are likely unavailable.

In a dissertation proposal, scheduling helps committee members anticipate when you may be needing their attention so they can warn you of conflicts with their calendar. Reach us today with your queries at info@dissertationindia.com or call at  +91-11-45680335.
